RE: How much truck???

I purchased a travel trailor several months ago. It is a 2006 Four Winds 29Q. I am pulling it with a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab pickup with a 4.7L v8.
My question is, is this enough truck to pull the camper? When I get a hill it gears down and the rpm jumps to 4500. What determines if a truck is big enough? The motor, the transmission, the rear differental?

RE: How much can I haul with a 3/4 ton truck??

I have an 07 Silverado HD 2500 that I use to tow a 5th wheel.
I need to haul two tons of wood pellets for our wood pellet stove. I would really like to make it in two trips, hauling one ton each time (about 40 miles).
Is this going to overload the truck?? I have load range E tires and I plan to air them up to 75 pounds.
The seller says he can place the pallet directly over the rear axle with his fork lift...
Any opinions?
It seems that the 3/4 ton truck is rated at more than 1500 pounds, but I am not sure....
Thanks

RE: SS retirement spouse eligibility question

SFICop, evidently that is no longer true. Previous posts in this thread indicate that non-working (or never worked) spouses are collecting on the wage earner's SS.
Thanks,

RE: On license and DOT cert.

There were a half-dozen folks in the RMV office with the same infraction and reports that everyone with a pick-up and passenger plates being pulled over for weight checks. This is a huge revenue producer for the towns who write a $100 ticket and the state who charged me $110 for a plate that expires on December 31. And that was after taking the passenger plate which I just paid $75 for which was good for another two years.Sounds like lots of Mass LEOs writing these tickets. Have a friend who is a retired trooper who says he was nothing but a "revenue collector" for the governor. They must be telling those LEOs up there what to look for. Lets see, we'll write the Ford Powerstrokes today and the Chevy Duramaxs tomorrow. And then we'll get those Dodges with the Cummins the next day. That should work.
Finally,
The Correct Answer... ;)

RE: On license and DOT cert.

So, a LEO walked by Your truck and knew You were Over Your GVWR without weighing it or looking at Your paperwork?
The law doesn't say loaded weight. It usually specifies rated weight. If it states over 10,000# any dually would qualify. In fact the present F350 singles would be required to have the proper tags, unless it was ordered with the special downrated package (but why order that instead of a F250)? There's a reason the F250 tops out at 9,800#.
California recently passed a law requiring special driver licenses for fivers over 15,000#. Carriage lowered their trailer GVW on their Cameo's to 14,999# without changing axles, frames, etc.
The Question is how does any LEO know the Specs for any given vehicle without looking at the paperwork?
What made the LEO stop and ticket this OP?
LEO's do not know All Vehicles GVWRings...;)

RE: On license and DOT cert.

Was cited by the local constabulary (Mansfield, Massachusetts) yesterday for not having commercial plates on my pick up truck. Officer describes my vehicle as a commercial truck due to the GVWR. While I've hauled a camper much of the time, I've never used it for commercial purposes and in over 4 years and 70k miles, have never been questioned about my passenger tags.
He also added a citation for not having a federal medical certificate, apparently a requirement for driving heavy commercial vehicles.
The state registry of motor vehicles will only give me passenger plates since that it the only use of the vehicle.
Has anyone experienced this issue before, and how was it resolved?
Thanks for your help!
